What are mineral salts?
These are substances found in small amounts in food and are essential for a healthy body.
What is the function of Iron?
Iron is necessary in the body for the formation of haemoglobin.
What is haemoglobin?
This is the red coloring in the blood.
What does haemoglobin do?
It carries oxygen to the tissues so that fuel foods can be burnt to provide energy.
What is caused by a lack of iron?
Anemia.

What is the function of Calcium?
The formation of strong bones and teeth, helps with the clotting of blood, and functioning muscles.
What is caused by a lack of Calcium?
Rickets.

- Kapenta.
- Tinned fish such as tuna and sardines.
- Bread has calcium added by law.

What is the function of Iodine?
Iodine is used to keep the thyroid gland in the neck heathly.
What does the thyroid gland control?
This gland controls mental and physical growth.

Why is it important to buy iodised salt in Zimababwe?
In Zimbabwe, it is important to buy iodized salt because we are a landlocked country so most of our fish comes from lakes and dams.
