Passion
The suffering of Jesus Christ before his Crucifixion
Descent of the Holy Spirit
When the Holy Spirit came down on the apostles in the upper room and they went out and spoke in tongues, praising God.
Resurrection
The rising of Jesus from the dead three days after his death.
AGONY IN THE GARDEN
The mental, moral, and spiritual suffering of Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane, where he asked, if it was God’s will, that the cup be taken away from him.
TEMPTATIONS IN THE DESERT
The three temptations Jesus faced in the 40 days in the desert. He was tempted at the end to make the temptation more powerful
KENOSIS
Means “emptying” in Greek. Means Christ emptying of Christ by becoming man and taking on human nature.
CRUCIFIXION
The nailing of a prisoner on a cross where they die from suffocation.
SUFFERING SERVANT
The suffering servant is Jesus Christ, nailed to the cross.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Meditating on Christ’s passion, death, and resurrection.
TEMPTATION IN THE DESERT
The 3 temptations of Jesus at the end of his 40 days of his fasting in the desert.
LAST SUPPER
Passover meal Christ and his apostles celebrated before his arrest. Institutes Holy Orders and Eucharist.
TRANSFIGURATION
Manifestation of Christ’s divinity to Peter, James, and John on Mt. Tabor. Also Christ spoke with Moses and Elijah. He was called “son” by a voice from heaven.
What is the Agony In the Garden?
First stage of Christ’s passion where he went to Gethsemane to pray for strength to meet his coming sufferings
Why did knowing the human heart especially add to Christ’s sufferings?
He knew that many would refuse his gift of forgiveness and salvation
