Two rollers rolling inward crack grain
-Only suitable for use with mash tuns and well modified malt
Four roll mill
First set of rollers remove husk
-Husk and flour removed according to size
-Bigger and heavier grits sent to a second set of rollers
Five roll mill
First and second rolls are created by 3 rollers
Six roll mill
-First roller set cracks grain, flour separated out, grits sent to second rollers
-Husk and flour sent to the outlet, grits sent to the third rollers to be crushed into fine grits
-Can mill less modified malt
-Most suited to a lauter tun
Hammer mills
-Metal hammers fixed to a rotating shaft
-Only suitable for a mash filter
-Only mill strong enough to crack unmalted cereals (rice, maize)
