1
Q
what is exp 10 called?
A
- rundown office block
2
Q
what was the aim of exp?
A
- to see if outcome would be similar as original research was carried out at Yale University, prestigious
- follow-up interviews showed that ppts felt nature of university provided them confidence to take part
- might be different if it was done somewhere will less respect
3
Q
what was the procedure of exp?
A
- rundown commercial office building was used in town of Bridgeport
- ’Research Associates of Bridgeport’
- same procedures were followed as original, although building was sparsely furnished
- lab was clean
- researchers said that they were from a private firm
4
Q
what were the results of the exp?
A
- ppts have more doubts
- 1 ppts made notes and asked himself number of questions about legitimacy of research
- another ppt questioned his own judgement and thought study was ‘heartless’
- obedience didn’t drop that much
- 48% gave full 450v compared to 65% in original research
- this was lower level of obedience, but Milgram didn’t think it was significant difference
5
Q
what was concluded from this exp?
A
- idea of having a legitimate setting does seem to be backed by evidence
however, it’s barely significant - ppts questioned the credentials of company on arrival (claims made during debrief), but still obeyed
- Milgram gave example that people deposit money in prestigious looking backs and seeing ones, so people will obey exps regardless of where lab is
