Contra indications
Hypercalcemia
Renal calculus (kidney stones)
Ventricular fibrillation
Use cautiously in:
- respiratory insufficiency
- renal impairment
- cardiac disease
Adverse affects
Frequent:
- arrhythmias
- constipation

Miki takes for OP
Safe dose - 1-2g/d in 3-4 doses

Side effects in miki
Dark stool could be constipation due to CC
This drug and miki
Dysphasia
Miki takes alendronate
- CC can decrease absorption of alendronate
- take CC 30 mins before
May decrease absorption of ASA and ramipril
Nursing actions
Given 60-90 mins pc meals
Observe for hyper/hypocalcemia
- twitching, chvosteks or trousseaus sign
Encourage vit D in diet
Chvosteks sign
Facial twitch when facial nerve is tapped
Trousseaus sign
Hand spasm when BP cuff is inflated for too long
