What is the Equal rights Amendment?
-Proposed amendment to the Constitution that banned gender discrimination
What are Jim Crow Laws?
-Law passed by southern states that enforced segregation
What is the three-fifths compromise?
-Counted each slave as three-fifths a person when calculating the representation in the House of Representatives
What is Judicial Review?
-Courts authority to declare laws void, that violate the Constitution
What is general election?
-Final election that selects an officeholder
What is the primary election?
-Narrows the number of the parties candidates and determines who will run in the general election
What is an initiative?
-Proposed law or state constitutional amendment placed on the ballot in response to a citizen petition
What is Civil Rights?
-General rights to equal treatment under the law.
What is the appropriation process?
- Process of providing funding for governmental programs
- How to spend budget
What is agenda setting?
- Making an issue so visible that important political leader take it seriously
- Determine the subject of conflicts
What is Checks and balances?
- Constitutional division of power into separate branches
- Gives each institution the power to block the actions of the others

-Freedom of speech, press, religion, and to protest
What is the 4th Amendmenft?
-Bans unreasonable searches and seizures

-Govt cant deprive citizens of life, liberty, or property without due process of law.
What is the 8th Amendment?
- Prevents federal government from imposing excessive bail and fines
- Prevents cruel and unusual punishment

- A representative will try to do as much for there constituents and spend funds to gain advantage
- A member of the appropriations committee that spends money towards state or district
