What was the historical importance of the Declaration of independence?

A
  • Written by Thomas Jefferson
  • Borrowed John Locke idea of “pursuit of happiness, equality, and popular sovereignty”
  • Ideas became the foundation for the Declaration of independence.
  • It was a list of Grievances from the colonist to England.
  • Said that England interfered with the colonist pursuit of happiness and therefore the colonist had the right to brake away.
