Midterm: Lecture 4 Flashcards
Light
defined by wavelength and frequency
Wavelength:
the spectrum of visible light is made up of light of many different wavelengths. Measured in nanometers
Electromagnetic Radiation
radio waves, microwaves, IR radiation, visible light, UV radiation, X-rays and gamma rays
Frequency
inversely related to wavelength
Two bands of UV light are commonly used:
UV- A
UV-B
Reflection
bouncing back of ray of light from energy source.
Refraction:
bending of energy
Absorption
take-in light or radiant energy
Photoelectric:
Process where light falls onto surface knocks electrons out of surface
Photon
photon has zero mass and no charge
Full-spectrum light for health
400 to 800 nanometers.
outdoor light around noon
Drug responsible for balance of sleep cycle
melatonin- slows aging process, coordinates fertility, allows restful sleeping patterns,
Pineal Gland
production of the hormone melatonin
UV light treats
treatment for dermatologic conditions such as psoriasis.
Safety Considerations
Active TB, photosensitive, fever, acute diabetes
