Midterm | L9: Exploration of Circulatory System Physiology Flashcards
PMI meaning
Point of maximal impulse
In listening the two distinct SOUNDS of the heart, the stethoscope’s diaphragm is placed where?
LEFT 5th or 6th intercostal space — midclavicualr line
HEART RATE: With the subject’s hand (1), compress the (2) at the (3) portion of the distal end of the forearm with the pads of your index and the middle finger until (4) is detected.
Do the same thind to the opposite forearm. Then for a minute, count the number of (5) felt on the radial pulse
- pronated
- radial artery
- antero-lateral
- maximal pulsation
- aretrial pulsations
In measuring HEART RATE, what is counted as ONE?
one ARTERIAL PULSATION is counted as ONE
Heart rhythm can be (1) or (2)
- regular
- irregular
Activities/ Assessments done involving the circulatory system (LABORATORY)
- Heart Sounds
- Heart Rate
- Muscle Exercise and Gravity
Not done:
4. Blood Pressure
5. Valves and Blood Flow Direction
BLOOD PRESSURE
- Let the subject seat comfortable on a chair with his/ her forearms (1) and suupported to place the (2) at the level of the (3)
- supinated
- antecubital crease
- heart
BLOOD PRESSURE
- Free the selected arm from any (1)
- Palpate the (2) to confirm viable pulse
- clothing
- brachial artery
BLOOD PRESSURE
- Snugly fit [(1) fingers could be inserted] the arm cuff with the lower end about (2) above the crease
- 2-3
- an inch
BLOOD PRESSURE
- Palpate the (1) in the arm then inflate the arm cuff noting the level at which the (1) disappears, then open the (2) very fast to release the air in the cuff
- radial pulse
- air valve
BLOOD PRESSURE
- Let the subject ‘open & close’ his hands (1) times.
- Position the ste’s diaphragm on the (2) then inflate once again the cuff to a level (3) above the level at which the radial pulse earlier disappeared.
- Slowly release the air valve and look at the (4) to identify where the first—loudest sound and second— softest sound is heard. Once the last sound is heard, open the air valve totally.
- Look at the result
- 30
- brachial artery
- 30mmHg
- gauge
