Midterm | L6: Comprehending Urinary System Anatomy with Radiologic Correlation Flashcards
Term referring to a wrongly positioned structure/ organ
Ectopy
One or both kidneys are located in an abnormal position in the body; kidneys that are higher or lower than their normal position
Renal Ectopy
One kidney is located on the opposite side of the body from its normal position, but still functions normally
Crossed Renal Ectopy
Types of crossed renal ectopy
- Solitary Crossed Renal Ectopy
- Bilateral Crossed Renal Ectopy
IVP/ IVU vs Plain KUB
IVP/ IVU uses CM; Plain KUB does not
Renal FMD causes (1) and (2) of the arteries
- stenosis
- dilation
Most common radiologic sign of Renal FMD
Bead pattern
Presence of stone in the ureter
Ureterolithiasis
Congenital condition where a person is born with two ureters for one kidney instead of the usual single ureter
Ureteral duplication/ Duplex collecting system
Types of ureteral duplication and difference
- Complete Ureteral Duplication: Duplication reaches the UB
- Incomplete Ureteral Duplication
Blockage in the urinary tract that prevents urine from draining properly from the kidney to the bladder.
Kidney obstruction
Normal appearance of kigneys in an UTZ
Hypoechoic kidney (darker compared to other organ)
Kidney stones AKA
Nephrolithiases
Fluid-filled mass that forms in the kidney
Simple renal cyst
Congenitial condition where the lower poles of kidneys merged/ fused together
Horseshoe kidney
