Used to sedate in intensive care conscious sedation for procedures.
What are the side effects of Midazolam?
High sedation: gastro-intestinal disturbance, jaundice, hypotension, cardiac arrest, heart rate changes, drowsiness, confusion, headaches, hallucinations, convulsions, dizziness
Contraindications/cautions/interactions if Midazolam?
Avoid use in marked neuromuscular weakness, severe respiratory depressions acute pulmonary sufficiency or in sleep apnoea.
Nursing implications of Midazolam?
Ensure child has an ID bracelet containing important medical information in case of an emergency,
Educate parents and carers to manage their child’s seizures.
