How do you calculate the magnification of an object?
A
Image size ➗ real size

How do you carry out a core practical of using a light microscope ?
A
1) Start with the lowest power objective lens
2) Clip slide on stage and adjust light source (lamp/mirror) so it goes up through the slide
3) Use coarse focusing wheel to focus on slide (increases distance between obj lens and slide)
4) Increase objective lens power of needed, then use fine focusing wheel to re-focus

How do you calculate total magnification when carrying out this practical?
A
Multiply the magnification of the eyepiece lens by the magnification of the objective lens
