MICROORGANISM

MICROORGANISM
(too small to be seen by the naked human eye).

MICROORGANISM
are harmless and play a vital role in maintaining health, such as aiding digestion and protecting the body from harmful organisms.
MICROORGANISM
Microorganisms that naturally live on or inside the body without causing harm .
NORMAL FLORA
Found in areas like the skin, mouth, intestines, and respiratory tract .
NORMAL FLORA
They help protect against harmful microbes by competing for nutrients and space.
NORMAL FLORA
An infection acquired in a healthcare setting that comes from external sources — meaning the microorganisms causing the infection originate from outside the patient’s body .
EXOGENOUS NOSOCOMIAL INFECTION
Contaminated hands, clothing, or improper hygiene.
Healthcare Workers
Non - sterile catheters, surgical instruments, or ventilators .
Medical Equipment
Contaminated surfaces, air, water, or other patients .
Hospital Environment :
Direct contact or droplets from coughing/sneezing .
Other Patients or Visitors
An infection acquired in a healthcare setting that arises from the patient’s own normal flora .
ENDOGENOUS NOSOCOMIAL INFECTION
Causes of ENDOGENOUS NOSOCOMIAL INFECTION
• Overgrowth of normal flora due to a weakened immune system or
prolonged hospital stay.
• Altered placement of normal flora into areas where they don’t usually
exist (e.g., during invasive procedures).
• Broad - spectrum antibiotics can kill beneficial bacteria, allowing
harmful microbes to grow unchecked.
