Microbio- Viruses Flashcards
What are non enveloped DNA viruses (3)
Parvoviridea
Adenoviridea
Human Papilloma Virus fam
What does Human papilloma virus cause (DS-DNA)
HPV 16 + 18 cause genital warts and are associated w cervical cancer
What does adenovirus cause (DS-DNA)
Pharyngitis
Conjunctivitis
What do parvoviridea cause (SS_DNA)
5th disease (AKA slapped cheek syndrome)
-causes red rash on face after fever
What are the enveloped DS-DNA viruses
Hep B
Pox-variola
HHV Types
What does HHV type 1/2 cause
cold sores and
genital ulcers
Respectfully
What does HHV type 3 cause
Herpes zoster
-chicken pox and shingles in adults
What does HHV type 4 (epstein bar virus) cause + what test is +ve
Mono- sore throat, cervical lymmphdopathy
+ve paul bunnel test
What does HHV 5 cause
Cytomegalovirus- causes interstitial pneumonia in immunocompromised pt
What does HHV type 8 cause
KAposi sarcoma in AIDS patients
Hep B- type, how is it pread
Transmitted from blood, semen, saliva, milk
–DS DNA virus
General rule for RNA viruses for if they are single or double stranded
Only double stranded is;
-Rota virus
All hep viruses are transmitted by oral-cecal route except
B+C which spread by sex, blood, IV
All RNA single stranded viruses are + sense except
Paramyxoviridea
Rhabdoviridea
Pneumovirus
Orthomyxovirdae
Rotovirus
ALL dna viruses are double stranded except
Parvovirus
What are the viruses in the Picornaviridea family (+ve SS RNA) (4)
Enterovirus (viral meningitis, milder, elevated lymphocytes in CSF, glucose unchanged in CSF)
Poliovirus (LMN destroyed)
RhinoVirus (Common cold type symptoms)
Hep A
What is in the family togaviridea (SS RNA +ve)
Rubella - generalized macropapular rash and occipital lymphadenopathy
What is in the flaviviidea family (SS RNA +ve)
Hep C
associated w carrier state, cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma
What is in the Calciviride family (2, SS RNA +ve Sense)
Norwalk virus- epidemic acute gastroenteritis
Hep E (not chronic)
What is the main retrovirus
HIV
How does an HIV infection happen
Early stages of disease include an acute respiratory disease syndrome which is similar to mon and is characterized by high levels of virus replication in CD4+ cells.
Latent period happens but eventually CD4 cells are depleted
What is caused by Rhabdoviridea (-ve SS RNA)
Rabies
What is caused by paramyxoviridea (-ve sS RNA)
Mumps
-swlling in parotid glands but can also cause orchitis (inflammation of testes)
What does orthomyxoviridae cause (-VE SS RNA)
Influenza
What is th DS RNA virus
Rotovirus
-causes stomach flu
