A
- Perspiration provides moisture and some nutrients for microbial growth.
- However, it contains salt, which inhibits many microorganisms; the enzyme lysozyme, which is capable of breaking down the cell walls of certain bacteria

- Secreted by oil glands; It is a mixture of lipids, proteins and salts that prevents skin and hair from drying out
- Also nutritive for many microorganisms

- Vesicle: small, fluid-filled lesions
- Bulla: larger fluid-filled lesions
- Macule: flat lesions that are often reddish
- Pustule (papule): raised lesions; when they contain pus, they are called pustules; if not, they are called papules
