Microbe Review Flashcards
What are the 5 types of microorganisms?
- Bacteria
- Fungi
- Protozoa
- Algae
- Viruses
What are the 2 types of Bacteria?
- Procaryotes (also spelled Prokaryotes)
- Archaea
Procaryotes Refer too?
Microbes that have Peptidoglycan in their cell walls.
- Common Procaryotes are:
o The bacteria found in normal environmental soil
o Normal Skin & GI flora
Archaea Refers Too?
Super ancient bacteria that lack peptidoglycan in their cell walls allowing them to thrive in extreme weather conditions .
o Survives in Hydrothermal Vents in the deep sea where temps are between 66C-110C
ø 100 degrees Celsius is boiling
o Survives in mountain tops and glacier surfaces where the temps are active to just below freezing
What are the 3 kingdoms & the exceptions?
3 Kingdoms:
1. Bacteria
2. Archaea
3. Eukarya
3 Exceptions:
1. Rickettsia
2. Chlamydiae
3. Viruses

Microbial Antagonism Refers to?
The bodies natural bacterial flora help keep pathogens in check by keeping bad bacteria out
Most UTI bacteria’s are?
Gram(-) Rods
Mycobacterium refer to?
Capuslated bacteria
