Q

leprosy: progression, symptoms

A
  • slow progression, affecting skin, nerves, mucus membranes
  • tuberculoid version w/ minimal organisms causes peripheral nerve damage. immune response is normal cellular
  • lepromatous: profuse growth, organisms in lesions, disseminated, T cell anergy

Q

m. tuberculosis: pathogenesis

A
  • bacteria enter alveoli and are phagocytosed by macrophages
  • migrate to surrounding alveoli, lymph nodes
  • recruit other immune cells
