Metoprolol (Lopressor): Contraindications
A
- Hypersensitivity to any component
- Sinus bradycardia
“Metoprolol Makes a Slow Heart Slower.” - Heart block >1st degree, except in patients with a functioning pacemaker
“Don’t Block a Block.” - Cardiogenic shock
- Uncompensated cardiac failure
- “Metoprolol Malfunctions in Failing Hearts.”
- Pregnancy (2nd or 3rd trimester)

Metoprolol (Lopressor): Dose/Admin
A
Adult
**5mg IV slow bolus **(1-2 minutes) followed by NS flush. May repeat every 5 min. (Max total of 15mg)
Pediatric
Not recommended.
