Methods to evaluate convergent/discriminating Flashcards
Methods to evaluate convergent/discriminating validity
Focus associations
Sets of associations
Multitrait-multimethod matrix
Quantifying construct validity
Focus associations
Between test scores and particularly important criteria.
They gain insight to validity coefficients’ correlations with crucial variables (tested with validity generalization over larger data of studies, which show the level, degree )
Multitrait-multimethod matrix (MTMMM)
Creates a matrix to show correlations over multiple methods and traits. Can either be attributed to;
- Traint variance; Goot at .. means good at.. because the traits connect
- Method variance’ when output correlates because the same data source; two measures share the same method. Show biased correlations
Monotrait-heteromethod
One trait measure by different methods;
Represents evidence of convergent validity
- Depicted in graph by diagonal line
These should be higher than the heterotrait monomethod correlatinos
Heterotrait heteromethod
Using different measures for different traits.
Should be lower correlated that the monotrait heteromethod (convergent/discriminate validity)
- Depicted in graph in triangle underneath diagonal line
Heterotrait monomethod
Different traits measured by the same method.
It’s expected that monotrait heteromethod correlations are larger than the heterotrait monomehtod cor. If not, it’s a threat to discriminant validity
