Methods for preventing cross infection Flashcards
1.
A system of standard universal precautions is designed to help protect staff from inoculation and contamination risks and yo protect patients from being exposed to the risks of cross infection
Basic principles
to assume that any patient may be infected with any microorganism at an time and therefore pose a risk of infection to all dental staff
All patients
are considered to be a source of infection and treated as such the techniques used will be good enough to reduce all cross infection risks to a minimum
We must:
good personal hygiene, regular adequate hand washing, wounds covered with waterproof dressing, no procedures with chronic skin lesions on hands, avoid contamination with bodily fluids, wear full PPE, follow decontamination procedure, clear spillages promptly + correctly, understand and follow infection control policy, have all needed vaccinations, correct management of waste, disposal of sharps and use of appropriate disinfectants
