Every surgery
will have a policy that will demonstrate that staff are aware and trained to deal with this in an approved manner, this should help to avoid inoculation injuries
This should
include information such as dentist being responsible for the resheathing and disposal of LA needles, that need guards should be used for resheathing and heavy duty gloves to be used when cleaning instruments

Stop all treatment immediately and attend to wound
2.
squeeze the wound to encourage bleeding, do not such
3.
wash area with soap and running water
4.
dry wound and cover with waterproof plaster
5.
note the name, address and contact details of the source so medical history can be checked
6.
complete incident book and report to senior member of staff
7.
contact with local occupational health must be immediate and if the source is a HIV or Hep C carrier, then antiviral treatment must commence within one hour of the injury
