produced as a guide on decontamination techniques and is a working document. It includes two categories.
- Essential quality requirements
The basic level of standards that all workplaces must achieve
- Best practice
The ‘gold standard’ to be aimed for but currently there is no time scale to achieve this.
Furthermore
Compliance of the HTM 01-05 essential quality requirements is over seen by the Care Quality Commission (CQC)
Clinical governance requirements
all dental workplaces have to have a written infection control policy in place
The infection control policy must include
action for sharps injury, decontamination and storage of instruments, details for reusable instruments, details of correct management of instruments, hazardous waste policy, hand hygiene policy, PPE use, recommended disinfectants and their correct use, chemical spillage procedure in line with COSHH
Staff immunisation records - vaccinated against
Diphtheria, pertussis, poliomyelitis, MMR, tetanus, tuberculosis, hep b, chicken pox, meningitis
