Metabolism (aerobic/anaerobic) Flashcards
1
Q
What is the ATP-PCr System
A
AKA the phosphagen system
- for high intensity short duration activities such as a 10 meter dash
- most readily available form of energy found in contractile muscle
- ATP + PC is stored here as well.
[DOES NOT REQUIRE O2]
2
Q
What is Anaerobic Glycolysis?
A
Glycogen splitting into glucose via the process of [GLYCOLYSIS]
[DOES NOT REQUIRE O2]
- only uses glycogen and glucose
- produces a small amount of ATP
Glucose can be further be split into pyruvic acid
3
Q
How much time does the Anaerobic Glycolysis system provide energy.
A
- 30-40 seconds
- 50% slower than the ATP-PCr system
4
Q
How much times does the ATP-PCr System provide energy for?
A
10-15 seconds
5
Q
What is Aerobic Metabolism
A
Used for long duration and low intensity activities such as running a marathon.
utilizing:
- Fatty Acids
- Amino Acids
- Glucose
To form ATP
