MEP.1.1.2.5 Electrical System Flashcards
Of what does the electrical system of a twin consist?
Bus bars energised by both alternators
What is a bus bar?
Device that distributes the electrical energy to various services
What happens if one engine or alternator fails?
The bus bar is still sutained by the live alternator.
However, some loads may have to be shed.
What do some aircraft incorporate in their electrical systems?
An automatic load shedding bus which downloads non-essential or less important electrical services in the event of reduced electrical power
What are the critical times in the electrical system?
When one engine or alternator fails and you need services that require a substantial load such as the landing light, dmist fans or blowers, pitot heat and flaps.
What’s good news about this?
That essential services of flight instruments, navaids, and comms require little electrical current and can generally be maintained.
