A cable-operated elevator trim has an electric motor position to position both the trim tab and the trim wheel

Forward for nose down
Downward for nose up

That it can be manually overridden or disconnected

Out-of-trim forces can be so high as to interfere with the safe opertion of the acft. Especially on take-off when you need one hand to operate the controls
