What are Dissociation disorders?
Feeling of being separated or disconnected from one’s thoughts, memories, identity, feelings or actions
- Include intrusions and unable to access information
What are intrusions?
Some feelings being forced on you
What is DID?
- Dissociative identity disorder: a disruption of identity
- characterized by two or more personality states
- learning to “get away” in their own brain
What causes DID?
Overwhelming experiences, traumatic events and/or abuse
- leaving a traumatizing situation
- children reaching same age as you during abuse
- later traumatizing experiences
- illness/death of abuser
Why is assessment of DID difficult
because memory loss of anything and everything can happen which can change a diagnosis if something is left out
What is dissociative amnesia?
Sudden loss of autobiographical information.
- Can be localized (single event(s)) or generalized
What is dissociative Fugue?
Sudden loss of autobiographical history and a sudden departure from home followed by assuming a new identity. Rare to last more than a few days
What is the difference between depersonalization and derealization disorder?
Depersonal: detachment from one’s mind/body where Derealization: the world feels unreal
- Self vs environment
What are somatic disorders and how is one diagnosed?
Physical complaints or disabilities without identifiable physical cause.
- Somatic symptoms for more than 6 months, excessive thoughts, feelings, behaviours, high levels of worry
What is functional neurological symptom disorder?
Altered motor or sensory functioning involving paralysis, abnormal movements or posturing, disrupted speech (throat lump)
What is a factitious disorder?
Pretending to have an illness or making yourself ill
What is the cal intake per meal and daily of a bulimia?
2000-4000/meal or 40,000/day
Describe the different mentality between anorexics and bulimics
Anorexic: Perfection and control over their body and food
Bulimic: depression and anxiety
What are the types of personality disorders?
Odd/eccentric
dramatic/erratic
anxious/inhibited
What are the trademarks of a antisocial personality disorder?
Disregard for and violation of others rights
- conduct disorder begins before the age of 15
- previously known as sociopath
