A
Bacterial.

- Bacterial Meningitis?
A
Resides in throat or nasal passages. Dangerous & easily spread.

- Viral meningitis?
A
AKA Aseptic. Limited to meninges. Produces various s/s. Caused by several infectious agents (mostly virus).

Bacterial infections not adequately treated in persons with meningitis can also cause?
A
Aseptic meninges.

- Hallmark S/S of meningitis?
A
STIFF NECK, fever, muscle ache, headache, confusion, photophobia

- Nursing interventions for persons with meningitis?
A
Initiate antimicrobial therapy through IV infusion and in large doses, control seizures, reduce ICP, treat the complication, dim lights/quiet environment

Bacterial meningitis is caused by?
A
Haemoinfluenza B, and vaccine that prevents streptococcus pneumonia.
