.Anatomical or functional asplenia
.Immunocompromised

Most common aseptic meningitis
Gungal. Often caused by cryptococcus species
Most common causative bacteria for community acquired meningitis in ages 2-50 years
S. pneumoniae and N. meningitidis
3 most common encapsulated pathogens that cause meningitis
. Streptococcus pneumoniae
. Neisseria meningitidis
. Haemophilus influenzae type B
Who is at risk for listeria virulence?
Immunocompromised and exposed to listeria.
Extremes in age, alcoholism, chronic corticosteroids, diabetes, cirrhosis, pregnancy, ckd
CSF presentation of bacterial meningitis
. Cloudy and turbid
. Increased opening pressure (250 or greater)
. WBC 1000 or greater
. Neutrophils predominant cell type (80% or greater)
. High CSF protein
. Low CSF glucose
