A

Subdominant minor. Solemn procession similar to Beethoven 3.2, modal feel with flattened 7th (C) in D minor, a ‘slow movement sonata form’; 2 ideas in exposition, repeated with modifications as a recap with no development in between.

A

Minuet-Trio-Minuet usual model, avoiding aggressive Beethoven scherzo model. Each section in rounded binary but with further melodic development and modulations. Fanfare in Trio. End of Minuet = combination of Minuet scalic theme and Trio fanfare theme.

Mvt 4

A

Saltarello; Italian folk dance with Tarantella (triplet) features. Tonic minor (A minor); unusual - opposite of Beethoven 5. Sonata form. Theme 1 from movement 1 brought back at the end in a minor key - linking of movements seen in Beethoven 9. Extensive development section and no clear recapitulation.
