Meiosis Flashcards
What does meiosis produce
gametes
Where does meiosis occur
in reproductive organs cells
How many copies of chromosomes do gametes have
ONLY ONE copy of each chromosome
When male and female gametes fuse in fertilisation what happens to amount of chromosomes
one of each copy is inherited from the mother and same for the father
this brings the number of chromosomes back to full number found in the species
What is it called when different chromosomes are inherited
variation
In the process of meiosis how does it begin
a nucleus contains pairs of chromosomes and carries out DNA replication to form replicants of each
Once DNA replication occurs what do the chromosomes line up like in the centre of the nucleus
In DNA replicants they go
alongside the same chromosome pair
(NOT SINGLE FILE)
After the line up is done what would you find in one of the new cells
Entire DNA replicants together
Once there are 2 daughter cells of entire DNA replicants together what happens
MITOSIS to get just one of each
How many cells at the end of meiosis
