Meiosis 1 Flashcards
Interphase
-DNA is replicated
-cell carries out normal functions
-cell growth occurs
Meiosis 1
-reduces number of chromosomes
-creates genetic diversity
-result is 2 daughter cells
Prophase 1
-nuclear membrane breaks down
-centrosome, centrioles, and spindle fibers form and assemble
-HOMOLOGOUS CHROMOSOMES pair up
-crossing over takes place
Metaphase 1
-spindle fibers move HOMOLOGOUS CHROMOSOMES to metaphase plate (equator)
-each side has chromosomes from each parent
-chromosomes line up in pairs on metaphase plate
*metaphase plate ~> HORIZONTAL
Anaphase 1
-paired HOMOLOGOUS CHROMOSOMES separate and move to opposite sides of the cell
-WHOLE chromosomes moves
-sister chromatids remain ATTACHED
Telophase 1
-spindle fibers disassemble
-each cell has chromosomes from BOTH parents
Cytokinesis (in meiosis 1)
Cell undergoes cytokinesis and the result is 2 daughter cells (genetically similar+ Diploid)
