Medical Terminology for Renal Physiology Flashcards
Cystitis
inflammation of the bladder. Inflammation is where part of your body becomes irritated, red, or swollen
Pyelonephritis
sudden and severe kidney infection. It causes the kidneys to swell and may permanently damage them
Hydonephrosis
swelling of a kidney due to a build-up of urine
Hydroureter
dilation of the ureter(s) and is most often caused by obstruction of urine outflow due to blockage of the ureter(s) by calculi, chronic inflammation, luminal or intramural neoplasia, or accidental ligation during surgery
Polycystic kidney disease
inherited disorder in which clusters of cysts develop primarily within your kidneys, causing your kidneys to enlarge and lose function over time.
Renal agenesis
Renal agenesis is a condition in which a newborn is missing one or both kidneys. Unilateral renal agenesis (URA) is the absence of one kidney. Bilateral renal agenesis (BRA) is the absence of both kidneys
Vesicoureteral reflux
when the flow of urine goes the wrong way.
