Medical Imaging Flashcards
1
Q
Medical imaging
A
- refers to the techniques and procedures used to create images of the human body.
2
Q
Radiography
A
- imaging technique using X-rays, gamma rays, or similar ionizing radiation and non-ionizing radiation
3
Q
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
A
- MRI scanners use strong magnetic fields, magnetic field gradients, and radio waves to generate images of the organs in the body
4
Q
Computed Tomography (CT)
A
- computerized x-ray imaging procedure in which a narrow beam of x-rays is aimed at a patient and quickly rotated around the body
- producing cross-sectional images—or “slices”—of the body.
5
Q
Ultrasound Scanning
A
- high-frequency sound waves to capture live images from the inside of your body
6
Q
Coronary Computed Tomography angiography scan (CCTA)
A
- heart imaging test that helps determine if plaque buildup has narrowed the coronary arteries, the blood vessels that supply the heart.
7
Q
Positron Emission Tomography (PET)
A
- reveal how your tissues and organs are functioning
- uses a radioactive drug (tracer) to show this activity
8
Q
Endoscopy
A
- insertion of a long, thin tube directly into the body to observe an internal organ or tissue in detail
9
Q
Radionuclide Scanning
A
- used to diagnose, stage, and monitor disease
- produces pictures (scans) of structures inside the body, including areas where there are cancer cells
