Medical Ethics Quotes Flashcards
For Euthanasia
“This is my basic human right. It is a matter of personal autonomy. It’s my body, my decision” - Dr Michael Irwin
Evaluation:
If we don’t have a line drawn for personal autonomy and freedom to your own body, it can be problematic. It could possibly enable dangerous and suicidal behaviour. That’s why if I was a doctor, I would follow a Humanitarian/egoist approach; purposely follow all my beliefs in order to both save/prolong a life with modern medicine, and do whatever I can to uphold my moral codes.
Analysis:
What he’s saying is the basic principle that it should be his body, his choice. He believes that, just as we have the right to live, we should also have the dignified right to die.
