Directed Donation:
Making a donation to someone you know e.g. friends and family
Paried/Pooled Donation:
A sharing scheme that enables kidneys to be exchanged with other pairs in a similar situation.
Altruistic Donation:
A selfless donation made from the concern for the well-being of others.

3-6 months
Deceased Donor waiting time:
2-3 years
Directed altruistic
A donation to a specific person you don’t know but read about in the news/social media
Non-directed Alturistic
Donation made to a complete stranger
An issue with directed donation
The Donor is not always a suitable match for the patient they wish to help
What’s the moral issue of coercion?
A person whose healthy and organs match the Donor may be pressured by the doctors/friends/family to give up their organ despite the risks e.g. my sisters keeper film
What’s the moral issue of risk?
Living organ donation can be risky in surgery e.g. the risk of infection, blood clots, allergic reaction, etc.
