Life is full of suffering.

Suffering is caused by desire.
What’s the 3rd Noble Truth?
To stop suffering you have to stop desiring.
What’s the final Noble Truth?
To stop desiring you must follow the 8 fold path.
What does the 8 fold path teach?
A step-by-step guide on achieving enlightenment and getting rid of desire.
Samsara - Dependant Origination?
The belief that nothing can happen without a cause, and you are therefore the cause of your own reality and experiences.
Analysis: It’s because of this belief that Buddhists think the circumstances of your next life are predetermined by the actions in their current life.
What is Samatha Meditation?
This is known as calming meditation and Buddhists believe that it leads to deeper concentration. This let’s go of cravings and focuses on Mindfulness and breathing.
What is Vipsanna meditation?
Insight meditation- a meditation that Buddhists believes allows them to see things for how they really are. Allows them to gain realisation of the 3 marks of existence. You can do this while walking!
What is Metta Bhavana meditation?
Metta = Loving-kindness
Bhavana = Development
A mediation that helps bring more harmony into the relationships with others; it deepens connections, lessons conflicts and helps reconcile.
What are the 5 precepts?
1) Don’t kill/harm/destroy life
2) Don’t steal or take what isn’t yours
3) Don’t misuse the senses e.g. pop music.
4) Don’t use wrong speech
5) Don’t cloud the mind with drugs and alcohol.
What are the 6 realms of Samsara?
1) The realm of Gods (greed/pride)
2) The realm of titans (greed/war)
3) The realm of greedy ghosts (greed/addicts)
4) The realm of hell (all 3 root poisons to the extreme)
5) The Animal realm (ignorance)
6) The realm of humans (a little of all 3 root poisons).
What are the 3 root poisons?
Greed, hatred and ignorance.
What are the 3 root goods?
Kindness, wisdom and non-attachment.
