Smoking has decreased since the 1950s. Signorelli found that tv characcters were 9x more likely to smoke in ‘64 than ‘82
now more likely to show characters taking an anti smoking stance
Friend and Levy- found in the US well funded mass media compaigns aimed at the general public with comprehensive tabacco program and associated with reduced smoking rates in adults and youths
