More African- Caribbean origin were 7 times more likely to be diagnosed with S than whites in the UK

How can Cochrane’s research be explained?
A
Different behaviors are seen as normal depending on culture.
Eg Asian cultures person experiencing emotional turmoil is praised and rewarded if they show little emotion.

How may culture be an issue in the diagnosis of S?
A
Being diagnosed on where you’re from, rather than the symptoms you’re displaying.
If someone is diagnosed by a psychiatrist from their culture they may be less likely to be diagnosed with S.

What may the impact of different cultures have on S?
A
People may be diagnosed with a disorder they do not have and subsequently prescribed medication they do not require.
