Coping-
gambling may begin due to positive feelings it brings, particularly if it is successful. Could also be said that if an individual experiences the ‘buzz’ it may act as a distraction from stress

expectancies-
positive feelings generate pos thoughts and once created these thoughts may be extremely difficult to change this means gamb expects to win each time

self efficacy-
if a person believes they are able to stop when they want they are more likely to initiate it

distorted thought-
people may start gambling because of dis beliefs about levels of skill and luck eg winning is skill and losing is bad luck

low mood can be relieved by engaging in the addictive behaviour this keads to financial social or medical probs

distorted thoughts/beliefs
people may start to gamble because they have distorted beliefs about levels of skill and luck

expectanies-
may expect if they stop they will be unable to deal with stress and that they will lose social enjoyment

coping-
cant cope without gambling, too much stress by relapsing it is adddressed immediately

if you think you can stop whenever you may be unlikely to stop

aimed to test the idea that gamblers think and behave differently to non gamblers due to cog bias. Found gamblers believed they were more skillful than they aew and that they make irrational verbalisations such as ‘only putting a quid on’
