ME 2:3 Flashcards

1
Q

Explain how social hierarchies developed. Pay attention to the gender hierarchies as well.

A

Division of labor, which was brought about due to plow agriculture. Plow agriculture also strengthened differentiation based on gender, with men being associated more with work beyond that in the household and women with the more domestic tasks.
Accumulation of supplies and/or being in positions of leadership allowed those people to have wealth and power, which really created the divisions between people and cemented social heirarchies.
