MCI Level 1: 5 - 10 victims 
MCI Level 2: 11 - 20 victims
MCI Level 3: 21 - 100 victims
MCI Level 4: 101 - 1000 victims
MCI Level 5: Over 1000 victims or when regional resources are exhausted or overwhelmed

Operational Personnel

A

Medical Branch Officer: Oversees medical operation (Triage, Tx, and Transport) at the scene

Triage Officer: Directs Triage of all victims

Tx Officer: Ensure sufficient personnel available to move victims to treatment area; coordinates re-triage of all victims; coordinates on-site medical care

START Triage

A

Respirations

  • 30 BPM or less, move to Perfusion
  • 31 BPM or more, tag Red
  • If victim is not breathing, open airway; if breathing is spontaneous: tag Red; Absent; tag Black

Perfusion:

  • Radial pulse present or capillary refill 2 sec or less, move on to Mental Status
  • Radial pulse absent or capillary refill greater than 2 sec, tag Red
  • Control any major bleeding at this time

Metal Status:

  • Assess pt’s ability to follow commands and get orientation x4
  • Victim follows commands, A&O x4, tag Yellow
  • Victim exhibits signs of altered mental status, tag Red
