17
Q

What is an equilateral traingle?

A

18
Q

What is an isosceles triangle?

A

A triangle with two equal sides.

19
Q

What is a scalene triangle?

A

A triangle in which no two sides are equal.

20
Q

What is the hypotenuse of a right triangle?

A

The opposite the right angle.

21
Q

What is a quadrilateral?

A

A polygon having four sides.

22
Q

What is a parallelogram?

A

A closed four-sided in which the opposite sides are parallel.

23
Q

What is a trapezoid?

A

A closed four-sided figure in which only one pair of opposite side are parallel.

24
Q

What is a hexagon?

A

A closed figure with six equal sides.

25
Q

What is the significance of the constant π?

A

Pi is the constant amount the circumference of a circle is greater than its diameter.

26
Q

What is the value of the constant π?

A

π=3.1416

27
Q

What is meant by a proportion?

A

A statement of equality between two ratios.

28
Q

What is meant by a percentage?

A

A fraction having 100 and the denominator.

29
Q

What is meant by scientific notation?

A

A method of writing very large or very small numbers using powers of 10.

30
Q

What are the risks associated with incorrectly applying the precedence of operations when solving algebraic equations?

A

Incorrectly solving algebraic equations can have serious consequences. One example is incorrectly computing the center of gravity (CG) after weighing an aircraft. An incorrectly computed CG could lead to a catastrophic outcome if the aircraft is loaded outside of the actual allowable limits.

31
Q

What are the dangers of incorrectly applying the rules of adding and subtracting positive and negative integers?

A

When installing and removing equipment from an airplane, it is important that the calculations are correct. Components may be either ahead or behind the datum and thus the moments can be either positive or negative. Incorrectly applying the rules of positive and negative integers will cause the stated weight and balance of the airplane to be incorrect.

32
Q

What are the dangers of incorrectly rounding off calculations?

A

Rounding off calculations too far or incorrectly can lead to many dangerous situations. This can result in replacement wires that are to small, switches and circuit breakers that are not rated sufficiently for the load of the circuit, incorrectly sized alternators, and many other dangerous situations.
