What aspects of maternal blood are tested with the triple screen?
MS AFP, unconjugated estrol, b hCG
What does decreased AFP indicate?
T21 or T18
What can increased AFP indicate?
Other birth defects/abnormalities
Where is MS AFP mostly produced?
Fetal liver, GI tract, kidneys and placenta. Also by the yolk sac
What produces b hCG?
Trophoblast
What could cause hCG to increase?
Multiple pregnancies, molar pregnancies, wrong dates, T21
Where is unconjugated estrol produced?
Placenta
What are decreased levels of unconjugated estrol markers for?
T21 and T18
What are the levels of MS AFP, B hCG and UE3 (unconjugated estrol) in T18?
All decreased
What are the levels of MS AFP, B hCG and UE3 (unconjugated estrol) in T21?
All decreased except B hCG
Which trisomy is not predicted with the triple screen?
T13
What is the difference between the quad and triple screen?
Quad screen- adds inhibin A
What is the NIPT?
Blood work at 10 weeks LMP
What is chorionic villi sampling (CVS)
Captures cells for testing (transcervical or transabdominal)
