A

What are the symptoms?

A

wks to days after AOM

fever, throbbing pain, postauricular pain, skin erythema. TTP over mastoid, swelling, pinna displaced downward

What is the dx?

A

CT mastoid is rare

usually myringotomy for culture if not improved after 48 hr

What is the tx?

A

vanco and ceftriaxone IV

Mastoidectomy if fails medical treatment

A

perforation in TM, extend through mastoid cortex –> abscess

rarely extends causing temporal lob asbcess and spsis
