What cell is related to acoustic neuroma?
schwann cells
How does this present?
UNILATERAL SN HEARING LOSS
What are some other symptoms?
HA, facial numbness and weakness, tinnitus, vertigo
What are the four mechanisms for producing symptoms?
compress spinal fluid space, displace brainstem, compress vessels to ischemia, compress nerves
What is the size of tumors?
3-4 cm in size
Where does this tumor live?
cerebellopontine angle
How is the growth?
slow
What does it look like on audiogram?
asymmetrical/unilateral sensorineural hearing loss
How do you dx?
MRI with contrast focused on internal auditory canals
What is the treatment of choice?
surgical excision
What are some other treatments?
stereotactic radiation therapy, serial observations
