epithelial atrophy with loss of hair in organ of corti, originates at basal turn of choclea and slowly progress to apex, precipitous drop in high frequency threshold, slow over time
What is neural presbycusis?
loss of nerve cells in cochlea,
What is metabolic presbycusis?
atrophy of stria vascularis, occurs in 30-60 yo, may be famililal
How often should pt be checked?
yearly
What is the tx?
hearing aids, volume application, television volume
