Q

What is High resolution mass spectrometry?

A

It can measure the MZ value so accurate and it differentiate the differences of small exact mass values

Q

What is tandem mass spec?

A

A technique where we are selective with in terms of what we want to break down. For example if we wanted just detect a certain compound

Q

What happens when you combine HPLC with MS?

A

Essentially you get it where we can clean out a blood sample via LC for example. Then using selecting process of mass spec we can break down and select for precursor. During the selection process we can then get the product to analyze

Q

Case study review:

A
  1. Isolation of the contents
    a. Wash the Ampoule with methanol, cheap, good solvent that dissolves everything
    b. Run direct into mass spec
    c. We can run MS-MS, of either of the compounds
    d. Compare the isoelectric point
    Utilize mass spectrometry

Q

How does analysis based on fuel cell technology work? (Breathalyzer)

A

If any alcohol is presnet in the exhaled air the alcohol is converted into acetic acid and the hydrogen ion and electrons on the top surface move to the platinum oxide which is then detected on the bottom surface
