Cadastral Map
A map that shows property boundaries
Choropleth Map
A map that shows the relationship between quantity or density and area using colouring or shading.
colour swatches that are shades of same colour
Contour Map
A representation of some part of the earth’s surface using lines along which all points are of equal elevation above and below sea level.
Dot Map
A map using dots to show the arrangement or distribution of a feature for example, population.
Flowline Map
a map with arrows and lines showing movement of goods, information and people between places and the quality of such movements
Isopleth Map
a map which uses lines joining points of an equal value to show variation in that value e.g. contour lines on a topographical map
Precis Map
A sketch map that highlights one particular feature of a map
Sketch Map
A rough hand-drawn map drawn in the field or from an aerial photograph used to analyse landscapes
Thematic Map
A map representing a specific spatial distribution such as population density, climate and vegetation regions
Has theme, uses different colours for it
Topographic Map
A detailed map on a large scale illustrating selected features of the physical and built environments
Weather Map
or synoptic chart- a map recording the meteorological conditions over a wide area for a particular time.
transnational corporations (TNCs)
large business enterprises with a number of branches operating in several countries but with usually a central head office in a developed country, whose powers transcend national boundaries
sustainability
the ability to meet the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs
spatial patterns
a key theme in geography that includes the concepts of location, distribution, spatial organisation and spatial differentiation
spatial interdependence
the degree to which phenomena depend on each other for development and/or survival. Spatial interdependence implies that a spatial association exists
