What are maps
Maps are a scaled down version of reality on a piece of paper
What are maps important
- They show us location
- Give us context to our surrounding environment
- gives us directions and distance
- used for development and Planning for the future
What is latitude
The distance north or south of the equator
What is another name for lines of latitude

What are lines of longitude
They tell us how fat east or west a place is from the prime meridian

Meridians
What is a scale
A scale on a map shows the relationship between the real distance on the ground and the map distance
What are the tree types of scales
Word scale, line scale and ratio scale
What are contour lines
They join places of the same hight above sea level together. These lines will never cross and they go up in equal intervals
What are the four ways to indicate altitude on a topographical map
Spot heights, trigonometrical beacons, bench marks and contour lines
How are contour lines used to show a steep slop
Contour lines close together show a steep slope
How are contour lines used to show a gentle slope
The further apart the contour lines the gentler the slope

A person who makes maps and relies on different sources of information to do so.
