What is a city challenge scheme?
A project to regenerate uk cities in 1990s. It came after docklands project started and included places like Manchester and Liverpool
What is an advantage of city challenge schemes?
They worked with local people to ask them what they wanted building, and it had one affordable houses
What is the disadvantage of city challenge schemes?
The amount of money the gov gave was small, as cities had to compete for funding

400 million pounds
What problems did the area have before regeneration?

Where did the money come from?
European regional development funds and single regeneration budget
What did they do to reduce crime rates?
The open plan design which gave criminal easy access to property and easy gateway routes has been replaced, the estate no has streets and walls, enclosing houses

How could the investment in youth clubs/ sports help with the fight against crime gangs?
- keeps criminals/ gangs occupied and gives them something to do such as a new hobby, which may stop them from getting bored and resort to crime
